Bringing ashore mournful, poetic tones of Euros like Opeth, Katatonia, Amorphis and Mercyful Fate, but crafting them with American ingenuity, export acts such Aggaloch, Kayo Dot, Gwynbleidd, Dawnbringer and Novembers Doom make for comparative argument, yet they're not a pigeonhole for the act at all. An infinite plain of genre-free experimentation and progressive thinking definitely fuels The Living Fields. Their epic qualities are taken to theatrical heights via Broadway-style execution, bringing folk and numerous metal styles with a multitude of vocal approaches to fruition throughout the album with the use of countless instruments, resulting in a conceptual sensation. Definitely a unique and twisted follow-up one can only hope to achieve when devoting as many hours over the past three years or so as this Chicago crew have. I'm fucking impressed. Mandatory. Someone sign them. Now.
