The Living Fields is a metal band, specifically a hybrid of doom, thrash and epic metal - this is a given. They take standard metal themes such as loss, sorrow and death and project them into something that should concern us all: the horrid state of humanity.
"Blood mixed with rot is all we have to eat for months. No sustenance, my people will starve, slowly they die." (from The Miseries Never Cease). This is about famine. This is real. The Living Fields shows us that whilst we are at home listening to music, waiting for the oven timer to beep, people in other countries even our own countries ate starving and facing many other horrors such as discrimination, poverty and never ending war, wars that started so long ago it is difficult to recall the real cause.
But what of the music itself? You'll hear rich epic doom metal, coupled with the occasional string quartet that adds eloquence. There are stark moments in the music, just like there are in life. A solo violin or cello is sometimes used to add "simplicity and humility" as the band puts it. The Living Fields has the ability to switch from heavy, bleak metal to quiet personal moments seamlessly.
The Living Fields has devoted themselves to spread awareness about the human condition of our sad world. If you are not affected in some small way by their music and words, you are a hardhearted bastard.
