Metal Maniacs review for The Miseries Never Cease

"That's interesting, man. That's fuckin' interesting." - The Dude in The Big Lebowski.

The Dude's unforgettable line somehow made sense here. Its all I kept saying during The Miseries Never Cease's duration. This is fascinating stuff - short, intriguing and memorable. Hitting heavy with its astounding lyrics and sampled selections about state of the world chaos, the war in Iraq and history and humanity in general, this 22-minute nugget of pure fucking gold was more inspiring than most things of any genre I've heard lately. Cold, crisp, European black/thrash-inspired metal passages executed with the utmost of conviction inspires fear within the listener (each and every damn one os us) while haunting violins, cellos and an array of other string arrangements dwell beneath its inherent evocative aggression. This early Opeth and Emperor with a coked-up string quartet and the dread of My Dying Bride. It's sporadic, but is perhaps one of the most inspiring EPs I've heard in a dog's age.
